self love, personal growth

Becoming A Fire-Walker

Personal growth can be somewhat tricky. In order to grow, we have to take a hard look at old perspectives and beliefs about yourself that are no longer working for you and change them. Getting to the root of these beliefs can be painful and unpleasant. We have to walk through fire before you can rise from the ashes.

Becoming A Fire-Walker

Recently, I had the privilege and honor of volunteering at a Tony Robbins event called Unleash the Power Within. A 3 ½ day seminar that helps attendees unlock and unleash the forces inside them to break through limitations and take control of your life. It is life-changing! If you have not attended and are not living the life you want…I highly recommend it.

My first introduction to Tony Robbins was in 2016. My partner-in-self-love, Amy Carpentieri was attending UPW (Unleash the Power Within) in Dallas. She asked me if I wanted to attend with her. I had read Awaken the Giant Within and have a natural thirst for personal growth, but what made me say “Yes” was the title…Unleash the Power Within…YES! I want that!

I had no idea what I was getting myself into and how my life would be propelled forward. As I previously mentioned,  my childhood and development years were pretty much stagnant. With a mother suffering from an undiagnosed mental illness, I was ignored and abandoned. My mom would not begin to get the right help until I was a sophomore in High School. The only thing worse than an ignored child is an abused child. I endured both.

When I was 19 years old, I read a magazine article titled, “30 Things to Do by the Age of 30.” One item on the list was “forgive your parents.” It said, “You are now an adult, take accountability for your actions. Your parents did their best they could with what they know.” (As a parent myself, this is very true). So…after reading the article, I forgave my mom. Unbeknownst to me, I still carried the pain. Can any of you relate? I would go on to make terrible decisions with dreadful, self-sabotaging results.

UPW showed the way to release this pain and begin to become the Self Love Rockstar I want to be (and have always been inside), and to live the life I want and deserve on my terms. I have overcome fears, gained self-confidence, and self-worth. Priceless!

When volunteering at UPW, you are given the opportunity to help others go through this transformative process. There are not many things in life that are more gratifying than helping others improve and change their lives. (This is also the reason Amy and I write, market, and share our experiences with you, Rockstars!)

Applying What We’ve Learned into Daily Life

It has only been a few weeks since volunteering at UPW, but I have agreed to speak at a professional conference before 200 attendees, asked for a pay raise, and shared my own vulnerabilities with you. I would have never have attempted these things that are propelling me both professionally and personally had I not attended UPW, and done the work on myself.

I am not perfect, and no better than you are. Anyone can make changes to live their best life. Learning and growing are what make us Human. If you are unhappy or even just living humdrum life, make a change! Live your life with Passion, and pursue the things that you love and bring you joy.

Life is too short to be scared and not take risks. I’d rather be the person that’s like, ‘I messed up,’ than, ‘I wish I did that.’ Justine Skye – Singer Songwriter

This weeks challenge, Rockstars: Find one thing you have wanted to change for awhile and make a plan to change it today or in the next week. Tell us about your experience, what it is and how this change has impacted your life. Giddy Up!

Self Love Learning | Self LoAve Rockstar

Tony Robbins is Not My Guru But…

He IS an amazing teacher and resource for growth, self love tools, and transformation.

Ironically my first venture back into work after being a stay at home mom for 10 years was as an outbound sales rep for one of his partner companies.

At that time I had never been to a love Tony Robbins event and quite frankly was intimidated by even the thought of it. My impression at the time was that he would push me to do things I wasn’t ready to do. His strength on tapes (yes tapes) was super intense for me at the time. He actually describes breakthroughs as being that moment where we decide “enough is enough.” I wasn’t ready for major change until several years later. I was invited to an “Unleash the Power Within” event as a platinum guest, which meant I got to sit in the front section. What I experienced was completely different than what I expected.

Tony’s sincerity and caring comes through right off the bat. It is obvious he absolutely loves what he does. He clearly wants to help people get past their own limitations and into self love, acceptance and living the most outstanding life we can live.

His methods are nontraditional, helping participants shift old patterns and lock in new ones. Also, he plays full out, teaching for long 14-16 hour days in what he calls “total immersion” learning for the best results. By the end of UPW I felt incredible– more alive, resolved, excited for life, self loving, and with a renewed sense of purpose and elevated standard. I haven’t looked back since!

By far this seminar has been the most profound personal growth experience to date.. When I left the seminar I felt like a light switch had been turned on that had been dimmed for many years, and that I could dream again. If you feel this may be the right time for you to majorly transform your life, step into self love in a real way, and overall kick some major Rockstar ass, see which Tony Robbins event may be the right one for you. You will never look back. As one of the song states in the seminar “Life will never be the same.”

How do Self Love Rockstars Meditate?

When I first heard about meditating, I truly did not think I could do it. I have a very active mind- always talking (to myself or whoever would listen) and thought I would feel too restless sitting still and “getting quiet.”

The first time I sat still for a few minutes and tried to “think of nothing, and empty my mind,” it lasted about a millisecond, and then I think I fell asleep. That was the only meditation experience I encountered for awhile.

Then several years later I learned some different meditation techniques that felt more “my style” for an active mind like myself. I’ll share these momentarily.

The first key item to point out is WHY would you self love rockstars would want to meditate? What is the purpose of it? Well, grasshopper glad you asked- here are a few great reasons to meditate:

  • First, nothing bad has ever come from meditating!
  • Second, learning to quiet the mind opens up a deeper level of communication with ourselves and our inner wisdom
  • Third, when it comes to self love, the best way to connect and send ourselves love is through meditation and being still
  • Fourth, meditation can help with addictions, stress, self destructive thoughts and behaviors, and much more
  • Fifth, as evolving beings, meditation helps you to grow at an accelerated pace
  • Sixth, one of the best ways to learn who you truly are (and then accept yourself) is through meditation
  • Seventh if you still need incentive, it will help you be a more relaxed, confident, happy person- and more fun to be around

Okay, now that we covered WHY all of us self love rockstars benefit from meditating, the next important question is which style best suits you? Here is an overview of a few kinds of meditation (keep in mind this is a huge topic so we’re mentioning a few of the most popular methods here). All meditations involve sitting up comfortably (or lying down) with eyes closed. Also keep in mind meditation can be for as short as 5 minutes or as long as you need. Here we go:

  1. Breath Meditation- Focus on your breath. Simply notice when you are inhaling and exhaling and concentrating solely on that. Another variation to this is counting (up to any number for example 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) while inhaling, and then either holding for a few counts or exhaling and count in descending order (for example 5, 4, 3, 2, 1)

  2. Love and Gratitude Meditation- Place your hand over your heart and imagine light/love flowing in through your heart in and out circulating through your body and healing with love as it goes. Focus on a handful of items you feel gratitude about. Do not overthink this- whatever comes to your mind works (when all else fails think of nature or a tree)

  3. Spiritual Meditation- Similar to Meditation #2, you can also place your hand over your heart during this meditation. As you inhale repeat whatever your name for God is (preferably something with an “Ah” sound if possible as it opens the heart) or simply breath in “Ah” and imagine a white light coming from the top of your head flowing all the way through you healing everything and down through your toes into the earth. Then repeat

  4. Sound Meditation- Select any song you like (can be instrumental or a favorite song with lyrics you love) and put on repeat. As you listen to the song over and over you will automatically enter into a state of meditation and calm..

  5. Guided Meditations- For you lazy rockstars! Just kidding, we love these guided meditations. Tons of free resources are available via YouTube, or you can also purchase one you like through iTunes. Here are some of our favorites:

One of the biggest keys to meditating is that there is no “right way” to do it. Also there is no goal except to relax. If you fall asleep, that is okay. If emotions come up, that is okay, let them come.. If you feel bored, that is okay. It is ALL okay and part of the self love and acceptance journey we are on. Once you give meditation a chance, you will want to incorporate it into your daily ritual, and you will see that even only 5 minutes a day makes a big difference! The challenge for this week self love rockstars…. Is to meditate (or try a new style of meditating if you already have a practice) and share your favorites (or questions)! Giddy up rockstars!!!
